Fire Pits and Mud Pie Kitchens

Yesterday we set about a few outside projects. Here is the finished fire pit Hubsy constructed from an old concrete well pump cover. He dug a pit and placed it inside, filling it up part way with gravel. It made for quite a cozy, crackling bonfire last night!

It is placed perfectly to watch the sun go down and looks out over most of our property, so we can keep an eye on the goings on.

The goings on last night happened to be a little girl enjoying her newly made "mud pie kitchen".

I made a small ring of rocks, filled it with mulch and made a little work surface by stacking some old concrete blocks. Their little holes can even be used as cupboard space. How handy!

I took a metal bucket and filled it with some soil and water, and there is the mud!

She went to town cooking and baking all kinds of gourmet mud treats for us!

I'm hoping that she will stay busy in her mud pie kitchen this spring while I do some planting and such in the garden.

Oh, and I need to remember to put on her apron next time. Ahem.
